Print drivers

OptimiDoc Cloud uses a centralised print driver management model designed to simplify printer deployment, ensure configuration consistency, and reduce administrative overhead.

All print drivers are stored in a central driver repository within OptimiDoc Cloud and are automatically distributed to user workstations by the OptimiDoc Cloud Client (OCC). Driver deployment is performed dynamically based on the printer and device configuration defined in the tenant, eliminating the need for manual driver installation on individual workstations.

Driver Types and Scope

OptimiDoc Cloud supports multiple driver scopes to provide flexibility across different deployment scenarios:

  • Global drivers
Global drivers are available across the entire OptimiDoc Cloud platform and can be used by all partners and customers. These drivers are typically vendor‑agnostic or widely supported and are suitable for standardised deployments.

  • Partner drivers
Partners can upload and maintain their own driver sets. These drivers can be shared across multiple customer tenants managed by the partner, enabling consistent deployments and simplified support in partner‑managed environments.

  • Customer‑specific drivers
Customers can upload their own print drivers for exclusive use within their tenant. This is commonly done using the OptimiDoc Printer Migration Tool, which allows existing local printer drivers and configurations to be migrated into OptimiDoc Cloud.

Driver Settings and Print Configuration

Each print driver in OptimiDoc Cloud can contain multiple print settings profiles. These settings define default printing behaviour and can be assigned to selected printers or print connectors.

This allows administrators to create predefined print configurations, such as:

  • default black‑and‑white printing,

  • duplex (double‑sided) printing enabled by default,

  • specific paper formats or finishing options.

By assigning different settings profiles to different devices or connectors, OptimiDoc Cloud enables precise control over print behaviour while maintaining a single driver source. This approach ensures consistent output, reduces user errors, and enforces organisational printing policies.

Automated Distribution

Once drivers and their associated settings are available in the central repository and assigned to printers, OptimiDoc Cloud automatically ensures that:

  • the correct driver version is installed,

  • the appropriate print settings are applied,

  • drivers and configurations are deployed only to relevant workstations,

  • updates are applied consistently through scheduled synchronisation.

This centralised approach guarantees a controlled, secure, and scalable print driver and configuration lifecycle across all user workstations
